Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

The Olympic champion finished her two-lap season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to go out there and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to award the victors with their crowns.

Last year's winners took home $60,000 (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
