Alarming Recording Captures Instant Police Get Knifed in Surprise Attack
One senior officer who jumped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a blade to the throat of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown began the violence as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in Whalley Range in summer 2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Policeman knifed," the officer stated over his communication device.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording shared by the police department revealed Brown, who was dressed in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and went down to the ground, before Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being continually attacked with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a clear shot, ending the confrontation to an finish.
Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get something on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell received two open wounds to his neck and further cuts to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster suffered slash wounds.
Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss before emergency responders reached the scene.
This most recent recognition follows after the law enforcement team won departmental Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the local Police Federation in spring 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in mid-2024.
"The responses of each policeman eventually protected themselves and meant no bystanders suffered any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
